President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine held three rounds of negotiations in Kyiv on September 6 with U.S. presidential envoys Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner, with representatives of European leaders joining the third part of the discussions.

Zelenskyy said the talks covered possible winter support, including air defence and the energy sector, prospective volumes of U.S. LNG, security guarantees, economic guarantees for reconstruction and possible next negotiating formats. He said Ukraine, Europe and the United States intended to meet again in the near future.

Canada backs coordinated pressure on Iran and efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz

Canada’s foreign and finance ministers issued a joint statement on September 6 calling on Iran to end what the Canadian government described as destabilizing activities in the Middle East.

The statement said Canada was working with partners including through the G7, supported efforts led by the United States, France and the United Kingdom to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and intended to maintain pressure through sanctions and other coordinated measures.

Eight foreign ministers condemn proposals to displace Palestinians from Gaza

The foreign ministers of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt and Türkiye issued a joint statement on September 6 condemning statements by Israeli ministers concerning proposals and mechanisms for the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

The ministers said such proposals violated international law and reiterated their opposition to forced displacement of Palestinians from their land.

India and Saudi Arabia discuss bilateral relations and climate policy

Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Cabinet Member and Climate Envoy Adel Al-Jubeir received India’s Minister of State for Environment, Forest, Climate Change and External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh in Riyadh on September 6.

The Saudi Press Agency said the two sides reviewed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchanged views on environmental issues, climate impacts and Saudi initiatives in that area.

Norwegian Royal Court sets September 9 funeral arrangements for King Harald V

Norway’s Royal Court published the programme for King Harald V’s funeral on September 6. The coffin is scheduled to leave the Royal Palace on September 9 at noon and proceed to Oslo Cathedral, where the funeral service will begin at 13:00.

The Royal Court said members of the Norwegian Royal Family, visiting royals, heads of state, prime ministers and representatives of official Norway would participate. A private ceremony at Akershus Castle Church will follow, after which the coffin will be lowered into the royal crypt.
