The ten Signals
Each Daily uses the same ten strategic lenses. The highlighted dimensions classify the developments in this edition.
Lead development
Chile / United States · Lithium · Trafigura Signs EnergyX Offtake Agreement
What happened
Trafigura and EnergyX announced a binding agreement on October 12 covering 100,000 tonnes of lithium products for batteries over ten years. The contract covers lithium carbonate from Black Giant in Antofagasta, Chile, and lithium hydroxide from Lonestar in Texas.
Under the agreement, Trafigura will purchase 66% of Black Giant's Phase 1 offtake and 30% of Lonestar's. The trader expects a significant share of the volumes to serve the U.S. battery supply chain. EnergyX targets commercial production in 2028 in Chile and 2029 in Texas.
EnergyX said deliveries depend on product qualification and facility commissioning. The purchase commitment supports the financing case for both projects as EnergyX pursues funding for commercial development.
Worker safety
Chile · Copper · Two Workers Die in Avalanche at El Teniente
What happened
Codelco confirmed on October 11 that two workers from subcontractor San Lorenzo had died following a snow avalanche at El Teniente’s open pit operation. San Lorenzo provides services to contractor Aura.
The workers were inspecting parts of the open pit, where operations were already stopped due to bad weather, according to Codelco.
The company said investigative police and prosecutors were at the site to establish the circumstances. Its statement did not quantify an impact on copper production or announce a shutdown of the entire mine.

Australia · Rare Earths · Arafura Signs Binding Offtake for 850 Tonnes a Year
What happened
Arafura Rare Earths announced on October 12 that it had signed a binding offtake agreement covering 850 tonnes a year of neodymium and praseodymium oxide from Nolans at nameplate production. This increases the volume in its May term sheet by 70%, from 500 tonnes a year.
The agreement also covers associated heavy rare earths. It runs for five years, with an option to extend for two more by mutual agreement. Pricing will be in U.S. dollars and linked to a global seaborne index.
Arafura did not name the global trader in the announcement. The contract expands sales coverage for the project, while customary conditions still apply.
Mineral rights and remediation
Peru · Polymetallic Tailings · Cerro de Pasco Wins Quiulacocha Auction
What happened
Cerro de Pasco Resources reported on October 12 that Peru's state mining remediation company, AMSAC, had awarded its local subsidiary the auction for the Quiulacocha tailings and associated surface rights. AMSAC granted the award that day.
Once definitive agreements are executed, the company expects to combine these rights with its El Metalurgista concession to advance the reprocessing project. The transaction links potential mineral recovery with the management of historic mining waste.
Meanwhile, technical work continues toward a maiden mineral resource estimate and feasibility studies. The release disclosed no purchase price or construction decision.
Development and community conditions
Ethiopia · Gold · KEFI Restarts Tulu Kapi Development
What happened
KEFI Gold and Copper announced on October 12 that development was restarting at Tulu Kapi following consultations with community representatives and Ethiopian and Oromia authorities. KEFI had suspended work on September 7 after the fatal Genji security incident on September 4.
The phased return begins with electricity infrastructure and access roads. Replacement housing and land for resettled residents will follow, enabling security works, earthworks for the processing plant and workforce accommodation.
Meanwhile, lenders remain supportive, according to KEFI, as discussions continue over development sequencing and associated funding drawdowns. The company is also prioritising experienced local firms for field work.
Financing and regulatory timing
Europe · Strategic Minerals · Beowulf Trading Suspended Amid Funding Uncertainty
What happened
AIM suspended trading in Beowulf Mining's shares on October 12 at the company's request, pending clarification of its financial position. Its proposed strategic investment led by Bacchus Capital faces uncertainty following the expiry of the investment agreement on September 30.
According to the company, Sweden's investment screening authority requested a valid agreement to continue its review. Bacchus said it could not extend its commitments indefinitely and expected the investment would not proceed.
Meanwhile, Beowulf has limited cash and no definitive interim funding agreement. It is considering alternatives, including asset sales, and warned that failure to raise funds could lead to the appointment of administrators.
